In praise of Globat hosting

Globat hostingIt is almost 10 months since I started this blog. When I chose Globat as my host, I was a bit skeptical about their service. But after 10 months, I can say that Globat has one of the best network backbones out there. In this post, I will look at some of the best features of Globat hosting.

1. Amazing uptime – As far as I know there was no downtime in last 10 months! It sound unbelievable, but I think downtime is extremely rare with Globat.

2. Super strong network – This blog was digged and stumbled. But even with 80K+ visitors on a single day, this site was up and running! This site uses WP-cache plugin, but still it is very impressive!

3. Excellent support – I normally use the online chat for support requests. Most of the time queries were answered in 1 minute! When they are unable to resolve the problem, they raise a ticket for you and it gets resolved in few hours!

The above 3 features alone makes Globat irresistable! The downside is that some of the one click installs are not upto date. But then you can install them manually. Also there is no shell access, which in turn ensures that there aren’t many shared hosting problems that you encounter.

To link or not to link

Scobleizer in a post titled “Big gadget sites don’t link to blogs” wrote that increasingly blogs are avoiding linking to other blogs. it is not hard to see the reason – You don’t want to increase another blogger’s pagerank and give him more google juice. Many of us feel jealous when someone else posts an exclusive item on their site!

I am also guilty of the same practise. Many times I had linked to the original source completely ignoring the blog which actually lead me to the original source. Obvously that is a bad thing to do. So next time onwards I will be linking the all the sources to my post.

But it is not wise to link everything. For example, if you are writing about a phishing site or about a spamming site you should avoid linking directly. There are two reasons for this – First you don’t want to increase pageranking for the site and secondly you may also become part of the google’s red list for linking to the spammer!

Recently I got into the 2000 blogger list and found that many guys are using the list as a sort of marketing list. They publish the list on their site and all the 2000 bloggers will see the site as the latest site linking to each of them! So like me, most of the bloggers will end up visiting the linked in site!

Finally I have decided to turn on full feeds

Hell with splogs and feed pirates – I am going to publish full feeds from now onwards.
I just now noticed that I have also messed up the categories. I need to clean them up ASAP.

Mozilla popular than Internet Explorer?

Today while checking access logs of my Website, I came across an interesting fact. Majority (55%, see figure below) of the visitors are using Mozilla! This was amusing since as per onestat Internet Explorer share on the net is over 85%! I was wondering how could there be such a drastic difference in my logs.

Here is the hint – I got digged :)
